"Brand-new bed town"
Main Post:
This is dumb, but it has been bothering me for a while.
At the beginning of Great Days, in both the English and Japanese versions, it says "Brand-new bed town". What the heck is a "bed town"? I assume it means the same thing as "home town", but this song is the only place I have ever heard this phrase. Before I looked up the lyrics, I thought the English version said "When you break down, that's the place I wanna be" because "brand-new bed town" made no sense so I didn't even consider it as what the line was.
Is "bed town" an actual phrase in Japanese?
Top Comment: Is "bed town" an actual phrase in Japanese? Putting this through google provides this wikipedia link . A commuter town is a town whose residents normally work elsewhere but in which they live, eat and sleep. The name also suggests that these communities have little commercial or industrial activity beyond a small amount of locally-oriented retail business. A commuter town may also be known as an "exurb" (short for "extra-urban"), "bedroom community" (Canada and northeastern U.S. usage), "bedroom town", "bedroom suburb" (U.S. usage), "dormitory town", "dormitory suburb" or less commonly a "dormitory village" (British English/Commonwealth/Ireland). In Japan, it may also be referred to with the wasei-eigo borrowing "bed town" (ベッドタウン beddotaun).
Quaint little shopping town with a fabulous bed and breakfast?

Hi, I’m (37F) from Chicago and I’m looking for a road trip to a cute little southern town for a weekend. My husband (38M) and daughter (14F) will be along too. Something comparable to Galena, IL if anyone has ever been there. Any recommendations on towns/ places to stay? Or nice cabins with things to do around town?

You should check out Midway. It's pretty much equidistant to Lexington, Louisville, and Frankfort if you decide you want nicer options.
Or if you're not trying to drive too far, Paducah is probably the shortest drive and has a lot of hotel options in their downtown area. Lots of shops. You should check out Pipers tea and coffee in the old Coke Bottling plant if you go and like good tea and coffee.
Here’s what’s coming to former Bed Bath & Beyond space in Virginia Beach Town Center.

Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park (ghost town and fossil bed) [Nye County, Nevada] OC
Main Post: Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park (ghost town and fossil bed) [Nye County, Nevada] OC
Top Comment: Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park is a historic state park in Nye County, Nevada (or what I like to call the "middle of nowhere"). The ghost town was mainly active in the late 1800s to early 1900s. The town was preserved in what is called "suspended decay", meaning the town was restored to a stabilized condition (structural integrity was restored to the remaining buildings) and is continuously exposed to the elements. This is a 2-in-1 state park as not only is it a preserved ghost town, but it's also the largest known fossil bed of the ichthyosaur, a prehistoric marine reptile the lived in the area. Yes, millions of years ago the area was completely under water. Due to how the fossils were formed, it's assumed that this part of Nevada was once a deep seabed. Some of the remaining fossils are protected by buildings and are viewable by the public. A few things to remember: it's illegal to touch or remove any artifacts or remains of the town, park rangers live on-site and do regularly patrol and monitor the park download or pick up a park map, the park is very spread out and it's easy to miss things the end of the NV-844 highway leading to the beginning of the park boundary is riddled with medium and large potholes, hitting any of these at 55+ MPH will easily blow a tire out. Keep in mind that you'll be driving at a high rate of speed for several hours up until this point, so this can catch you off guard. the final stretch of road to the park is a ~10 mile dirt road. Your average car will traverse this without much effort. The road narrows at the end, be mindful of oncoming cars. We've been here in my MINI Cooper S and Mercedes-Benz E350, both are non-AWD and traversed this without any issues. most of the remaining buildings insides are viewable from the outsides, some buildings allow individuals to walk in and explore. My recommendation is to place your camera right against the windows to take some awesome shots of the inside of buildings. Doing this, most modern cameras will focus past the window reflection/glare/grit and will give you a clear shot of the inside. there is no cell service in this area and most of the highway leading into the park. In all of our travels, this is probably one of the worst places to break down or get a flat. Also remember that if your cell carrier doesn't have service in a given area, dialing 911 will force your phone to connect to any available cell signal to carry out the call. http://parks.nv.gov/parks/berlin-ichthyosaur
Impromptu Trip To Charles Town
Main Post:
Hello,
My wife and I live in the Northern Panhandle and both work pretty hectic schedules. We were both able to get time off to enjoy our anniversary this weekend. I booked from Thursday-Monday at a bed and breakfast last minute in Charles Town. Any recommendations on things to do? We are just kind of winging it. I have only been to the Eastern panhandle one time to hike/camp. Thank you !
